So december is in the books and we have changed to a new year of 2024. The busyest month of the year went really good, eaven though Kim had to have a sick day just before christmas. Dogs did a exellent job and looked like they had not done much in the whole month. We where running 22 dogs on a schedule of 3-7 days of work and 1 day of, might sound hard but like i said the dogs looked like they had not done much when the year changed.
So whats happened at the kennel for the past month? Well, we have kept dogs running and happy and eaven though we have not had time to do much with the young dogs every one seems happy. We did not run any training runs but we runned for about 1700km in december, with race season just around the corner thats a good amount in december for our dogs and still looking like that was easy.
With the new year it brouhgt us some cold temperature, the coldest day it was- 34 degrees at our kennel. Dogs likes it when its this cold, some might eaven prefer colder :D some again a bit warmer around -20 or -25 dergrees. My self, i like this weather when it feels so crispy and nice. You can also se that the dogs run better when its arctic climate out on the trail. Sure when its this cold we want to prevent injurys and stuff like that so we put jackets on the dogs to keep them a bit warmer and there muscels. Also when its this crispy we put booties on them to prevent scratches and tuff like that on there feet. But now the weather starts to warm up, tomorrow it should be + degrees eaven.

When we have the first race of the season this weekend we are starting to switch our focus on planing for Lapland Quest. This means that we are monitoring the dogs and trying to make the final choices on who is taking there place in the team of 10 dogs. Race sled need to be checked and all our gear that we will need. It wuold be nice to do one training run before the race but we are still far behinde on trails and other stuff that makes a good training run :D So lets see if we can pull it of. But like i said we have done about 1700km in december and all tours i got to run the team myslef. I feel good about how the dogs looks and how they preforme.
What comes to the young ones in the kennel? They are groving good and starting to look like fine sleddogs. The pups that where born last spring will be doing there first short run maybe in february or march. The pups who where born this fall will still be just playing around and prep them selfs for next fall seasons training. At the moment we have 10 young ones who will joining the fall training next year. Ipa, Lager, Molly, Fritz, Dante, Dalton, Hynynen, Janna, Ellinoora and Viki are our new generation who will take there place in the kennel with storm.
Like i said i have a good feeling for this season and eaven more for next season! Lets keep them lines thigt and mush on.
