New things and dog running

kimberglund98

So we (me, my wife and Ida doughter) arrived to the kennel in Rovaniemi on friday the 1st of september. First during the weekend myself and my team of handlers (how i will talk about later) attended the Arctic Circle Sleddog Symposium where we learned alot.

Sleddog seminar

The Symposium was a two day thing full of intresting ans usefull lessons. Sled speakers at the seminar was Sergio Maffi, Matti Salmi, Asbjörn Erdal-Aase, Petter Karlsson and Trine Lyrek. All of the speakers had some great things to talk about. Most maybe Matti Salmi had an impact on myself, things we as mushers might forget with time. His lesson was about the mental side and what makes a great team, both dogs and peoples. His speach was something i myself shuold have heard two years ago when i was on my lowest.

Asbjörn had some good things to say about the history of sleddogs and i got alot of knowledge about breeding and where most of our dogs come from. Kind of same ideas what i have been thinking about if it wuold work in todays time in our sport. Sure something im going to play around with ;)

Petter gave me some ideas about how to breed and what i shuold look for and that got me thinking about who of my females i shuold breed. I think i got it figured out but well time will tell how everything works out. He also had some points about training that we have been doing and things we shuold do better.

Trine was kind of telling a story about her and Hannas life with dogs. Gave us kind of a view how inportant the whole team is. Handlers, dogs and your personal life. Things we all shuold also be greatfull for. Also some things to think about during long-distance races and how to get trough hard situations.

Things at the kennel?

We aslo got to start our training season for real now, meaning that dogs are spending more and more time in the team and in the free running fence. All dogs get to be in training for this upcommig season. All of our adults are training in two teams of 10-11 dogs. The dogs has done good in all trainings and are getting back to where i want the dogs to be. Both teams are preforming good and speed wise very equal.

During the weekend we also got to welcome a litter of 6 puppys, out of Mora x Jim Beam. 4 males and 2 females happy and healthy. We expect them to be nice sleddogs in the future, due to good lines and steady parents. Both Mora and Jim Beam have preformed good on races and are decent workers and easy and nice dogs.

Stay tooned for more posts next week!!!
