Rock solid

kimberglund98

We once again have almost finished a trainign period for this fall season, the first two weeks where good conditions but the last week has been a struggle with trail conditions. Our training trails has gone from dirt roads to icey roads and hard frozen dirt mixed up with rock solid hard sharp ice. Luckily we had a different option with taking the dogs to another place with our truck and trailer to run them on smoother trails. We also got to do some truck mushing after running with the atv for a while. Dogs has done great and like i told you that it feels like this season is going a little bit too good :D Only some small problems with feets and have slowed us down but not much.

Truck Mushing?

So like i said we had to do a bit of truck mushing while our home trails have gone from bad to worse, so what is truck mushing? What does that mean? Well let me tell you and open up a bit of what the diffrence is from atv mushing.

First of all truck mushing is much more comftreble for the musher :D Like the term says we basiclly mush the dogs by truck, so we hook up the dogs infront of the truck and do the same thing as we do with the atv. Only difference is that we hook up 20 dogs infront of the truck insted of just 10-12 like we do with the atv. We tryed now to hook up two 10-dog lines infront of the truck side by side and the dogs did a great job with handling to run along side another team. Another difference is that we cant do truck mushing from our kennel so we have to move the dogs by trailer to a different spot to run them.

Also a difference is how you feel the team, with a atv you ca nreally feel the power in the dogs and how much they actully pull. Sure if you hook up 20 dogs in front of the truck you can also feel the power but it feel much mire that the musher is in control of the team and the speed. Dogs did work very good on the two last run we did with the truck, eaven tough the first time was a bit... let´s say intresting :D

So what happened? Well with heavy snow fall and pretty warm temperature it was soft and sometimes i tought that we are going to get stuck with the truck and the trailer :D But sure you get more power when you have 20 dogs pulling you so we survived and last time we did just avoid going to that soft part of the road. But again in that case you cuold feel the power in the teams and i still had trust that if the truck won´t get us out the dogs will. But it sure was an adventure and a change for the dogs to run somewhere else than on our home trails.

What else have happened at the kennel?

We have had the plesureto have my wife and kids staying with us for a week due to school beigin on holiday. Its bee nice to spend sometime with them along side of training and other maintence work around the kennel. Its also nice that the pups get to know other memebers of our crew and getting social with kids and getting to be around kids. Also nice to see how the adults are still remebering my kids and welcoming them in to the kennel as family.

As for now we have deiced on who of Mora x Jim Beam pups are staying at the kennel and who are up for sale, you can find more on our new page "Dogs for sale" aboutthe two boys that are up for asle still. Lets say that with a good litter it was peretty easy to say who are the pups staying, no bad options. It sure is going to be an intresting next season with 6 new youngsters to train :D For now it is going to be Ipa, Lager, Molly, Fritz, Dante and Dana who are going to take our kennel forward from next season.

Whats next?

So like i said, this training period is coming to an end and i feel confident that dogs has done a good job so far and i feel like we are right where we want to be. Next week is going to be a recovery week for the dogs with massage and just resting before we next month hit the trails again for the last period before the season. It´s good to have a person who takes care of the dogs and cheacking the up for anything while they rest, im lucky that my dad has studied dog massage and i willing to put time on our superstars.

Next months is all about finishing up what have been a great training season so far. After that we will get in to work mode for a month just focusing on getting enough money to maintain our kennel and keep the dogs moving and happy, after that we still are going to work but start focusing on Lpaland Quest in january and then Finnmark in march.

So for now everybody just mush on and have a nice fall time before the winter darkness hits us and lets keep those lines tighet!! Mush on everyone!!!
